Internship Position Description - Public Affairs
Office of Communications and Government Affairs
Overview
The Office of Communications and Government Affairs at the Institute of Museum and Library Services seeks part- or full- time interns to assist with work on publications and media relations. Work will be focused on, but not limited to, museum and library programs funded by IMLS. The intern may design a flexible schedule around classes, with a minimum commitment of 10-20 hours a week. The position is unpaid but will generate clips and build resumes.
The intern should be a strong writer who pays careful attention to detail and deadlines. Duties include but are not limited to writing, editing, and disseminating information in the form of press releases, feature stories (profiles/case studies/success stories), and Web content. Interns may also help plan and execute special events and press briefings. An energetic go-getter will fit well in this fast-paced office.
The position is being extended to bachelor and graduate degree candidates in media studies, journalism, and public affairs programs. We will cooperate in arrangements for school credit wherever possible.
