Intern Position Description - Summer 2012 Internship
Office of Strategic Partnerships

IMLS is seeking a volunteer intern to support projects in the Office of Strategic Partnerships.  This office creates and maintains collaborations and special initiatives that further the IMLS mission and use the educational resources of museums and libraries more effectively across government and non-governmental organizations. 

The intern will assist the team with three key learning initiatives: Early Learning in Libraries and Museums, Museums and Libraries and 21st Century Skills, and the Learning Labs in Libraries and Museums grant program.  The intern would also be encouraged to have or develop a research project of his/her own that would relate to the mission and goals of IMLS and the activities of the Office of Strategic Partnerships. The intern will work with program staff at IMLS and will present the results of this project to staff at the conclusion of the internship.The intern will have the opportunity to become familiar with IMLS discretionary museum and library grants and Grants to State Library Administrative Agencies. The intern will also support administrative duties of the Office of Strategic Partnerships as necessary.  

The position is being extended to master’s degree candidates with coursework relevant to museum or library administration, education and learning, project management, or grant-making. Desirable skills and abilities: organizing and prioritizing multiple tasks and working independently; skill in written and oral communication; interest in museum and library research; and experience with spreadsheets, databases (or museum cataloging systems), and MS Office. Unfortunately, we are not able to pay our interns.  We will cooperate in arrangements for graduate school credit.  The intern may design a flexible schedule around classes, with a minimum commitment of 8-10 hours a week.
