Description: Pioneer Sunday is an outdoor event that enables visitors to discover connections between historic and modern agriculture in Texas. The San Antonio Botanical Gardens, Bexar County Master Gardeners, and San Antonio Food Bank will each present home gardening and nutrition activities intended to promote healthy food choices. Utopia ISD FFA will present an antique tractor show and the Texas Time Travelers will provide costumed historical interpretation of the Texas frontier. Free admission, noon – 4:00 p.m.

Description: A free 4.51k (2.8 mi.) walk on the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath, ending with a bonfire and marshmallow roast to augment the theme of Ray Braadbury's book, Fahrenheit 451.  As part of The Big Read (NEA initiative), the Massillon Museum is leading a broad collaborative effort to encourage leisure reading by celebrating this year's book selection with related activities.

For the 2013 Chef Series Lineup visit http://www.chicagobotanic.org/chef. Seating is first-come, first-serve for these free demonstrations. Visitors will need to use sun protection and wear caps in this sunny location. No umbrellas, please. The Regenstein Fruit & Vegetable Garden is the Midwest's headquarters for fruit and vegetable gardening information. It exhibits the best edible plants to grow in the Chicago area. Interpretive signs explain the organic growing techniques used throughout the garden."Saturdays & Sundays, 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Event Location: Backpacks are picked up at Emily Lowe Gallery, behind Emily Lowe Hall, South Campus.
Description: The Hofstra University Museum's three distinct Sculpture Exploration Backpacks offer activity-filled ways for adults and children to explore together our outdoor sculpture collection on the University's beautiful campus. One backpack focuses on sculptures of animals, one on sculptures of people and one on sculptures based on shapes. At the end of each backpack tour, the backpack is returned each child receives a small gift from the Museum. It's for everyone ages 6 and up and their grown-up companions all year-round during Museum open hours. All Sculpture Exploration Backpacks include physical activities that encourage movement as well as suggestions for healthy snacking.

Description: Run! Jump! Fly! inspires young people to get phsyically active. The exhibit invites visitors to jump into play activities that build strength, coordination, balance and endurance. Visitors climb a canyon wall, balance on a “snow” or “surf” board, pedal “flycycles”and practice kung fu stances. Run! Jump! Fly! helps children build healthy bodies and minds by challenging themselves with accessible physical activities. Children can push their physical limits in a safe and fun environment, gaining confidence and coordination. Messages for parents and caregivers highlight the importance of daily physical activity for children’s health and well-being. Run! Jump! Fly! was created by Minnesota Children’s Museum, one of the nation’s largest producers of traveling exhibits for children’s museums. Approximately 135,000 visitors are expected during the summer 2013 run of the exhibit at Minnesota Children's Museum, including members, general admission visitors, school and community groups.

Event location: Smithsonian Gardens’ gardens
Description:  A self-guided scavenger hunt that takes children and families on an education-filled exploration of Smithsonian Gardens. Families have an opportunity to exercise their way through a butterfly garden, a vegetable garden, and more, as they complete the scavenger hunt for garden “treasures.” The entire scavenger hunt it may take 2-3 hours to complete, but it can be also be broken down into smaller parts for a shorter experience. The gardens are beautiful in any season, but most of the highlighted plants bloom in spring, summer and fall.
