WebWise Conference on Libraries and Museums in the Digital World
Since 2000, the WebWise conference has brought together representatives of museums, libraries, archives, systems science, education, and other fields interested in the future of high-quality online content for inquiry and learning. This annual conference highlights recent research and innovations in digital technology, explores their potential impacts on library and museum services, and promotes effective museum and library practices in the digital environment. It also provides recipients of technology-based grants from the Institute with an opportunity to showcase their exemplary projects.
WebWise 2014: Anchoring Communities
WebWise 2014 will take place February 10-12, 2014 at the Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace in Baltimore, MD.
The two-and-a-half-day conference exploring digital technologies in museums and libraries will feature keynote speakers Nick Poole from Collections Trust and Mary Flanagan from Dartmouth University.

IMLS’s annual WebWise conference explored digital technologies in museums and libraries through workshops, talks, and demonstrations. WiseCamp sessions were chosen by participants who voted for topics of interest using the interactive platform IdeaScale.

This year’s WebWise conference will highlight projects that draw attention to museums' and libraries’ participation in the maker movement.
The 2011 WebWise Conference on Libraries and Museums in the Digital World was held in Baltimore, March 9-11, with preconferences on the 9th and the main conference on the 10th and 11th. The theme for the 2011 conference was “Libraries, Museums, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) in Research, Education, and Practice.”
The 2010 WebWise Conference was held March 4-5, at the Hyatt Regency, Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colorado with a day of pre-conference workshops on March 3. The theme was "Imagining the Digital Future." Conference programs addressed the successes and innovations of the past as well as the opportunities and challenges that can help drive museum and library sciences into the future.
The 10th annual WebWise Conference was held in Washington, D.C., February 26-27, 2009. The conference focused on some of the problematic “Big Issues” faced by museums, libraries, archives, and other cultural institutions as they deal with emerging technologies, changing social behaviors and expectations, and new economic realities.The Proceedings Book provides summaries of each session, full text of conference keynotes, and more.

WebWise 2012 took up the theme of “Tradition and Innovation,” investigating how libraries and museums have used digital technologies to help scholars, students, educators, and the general public understand history and the humanities. This year’s conference took special note of the unique contributions that historical societies, public libraries, and other small and local organizations make to humanities scholarship and education.
