In 2013, the impact of IMLS grants was felt across the nation, in rural and urban communities, in museums both small and large. All types of museums, from art, history, and children’s museums to botanic gardens, aquaria, science and technology centers, tribal museums and zoos received support.
This report on the Museum Grants for African American History and Culture program provides data on the program and the grants made to date. It also provides guidance on writing a successful proposal and impressions from grantees.
On July 16, 2004, IMLS convened a day-long forum of leaders in the African American museum community, as well as leaders in the museum community at large, to explore the evolving role of African American museums, their contributions, and their challenges.
