Program Overview:

The Connecting to Collections Statewide Implementation Grants fund projects that implement the plans or models created through IMLS Connecting to Collections Statewide Planning Grants. These projects will be designed to address priorities identified in the Heritage Health Index:

  • To provide safe conditions for collections
  • To develop an emergency plan
  • To assign responsibility for collections care
  • To work collaboratively to increase public and private support for, and raise public awareness about, collections care

These grants are designed to encourage people and institutions in each state to collaborate in specifically addressing the most pressing needs of its collections-holding institutions (e.g. museums, libraries, archives). Applicants should describe what has already been accomplished; name the institutions, organizations, and people to be involved in the implementation process; and outline their plan’s specific steps to improve collections care.

Eligibility:

Institutions that fulfill the general eligibility criteria for museums and/or libraries may apply. Public or private nonprofit agencies, organizations, or associations that engage in activities designed to advance museums and the museum profession may also apply. In addition, institutions of higher education, including public and nonprofit universities, are eligible. Preference will be given to projects that build on successful IMLS Connecting to Collections Statewide Planning Grants and that involve multiple partnerships among libraries, museums, archives, statewide service organizations, and state agencies.
