Washington, DC—The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) announced today its continuing commitment to expanding public access to IMLS funded research. In a February 22 memorandum, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy directed agencies to develop plans to increase access to federally funded scientific research and improve the management of research data.

The following is a statement from IMLS Director Susan H. Hildreth:

"Public access, transparency, and collaboration are necessary for innovations that can translate research results into new knowledge and practices. IMLS has been working for some time to improve public access to the research and data developed through IMLS-funded projects. We require our grantees with research projects to have plans for data management and the effective dissemination of results. We fully support the spirit of the White House directive to increase access to federally funded projects and will continue to review our programs and activities to ensure that IMLS-funded research is as broadly accessible as possible. We look forward to working with our federal colleagues and our non-governmental partners in advancing this important initiative."
