Washington, DC—The National Museum and Library Services Board meeting will be held at the Institute of Museum and Library Services offices at 1800 M St., NW on June 13, 2011 from 1 – 3:30 p.m. This meeting is open to the public and will be an important opportunity to participate in the development of the next five year strategic plan for IMLS.

The agency’s current plan expires on September 30. The meeting will feature a facilitated discussion to identify stakeholders and contribute to an analysis of the political, economic, social and technological issues that affect library and museum service.

"The years ahead will be critical ones for the nation’s libraries and museums; strategic leadership is needed to shape programs and services to most effectively meet public needs," said IMLS Director Susan Hildreth. "Our goal is to have an efficient process that includes public consultation and a focus on results."

The reauthorization of the Museum and Library Services Act of 2010 passed with broad bi–partisan support in Congress and signed by President Obama on December 22, 2010, provides an important roadmap for the strategic plan. It emphasizes the roles of libraries and museums in education; economic, community and workforce development; civic engagement; and many other national priorities.

To attend the meeting, please RSVP by Thursday, June 9th to Elizabeth Lyons at elyons@imls.gov.
