Justice Sandra Day O'Connor Swears in Eight Members of
the National Museum and Library Services Board
Washington, DC—U.S.
Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor administered
the oath of office last night to eight new members of
the National Museum and Library Services Board during
a Capitol Hill ceremony in the Dirksen Office Building
of the United State Senate. The Board’s eight new
members were nominated by President Bush and recently
confirmed by the United States Senate.

The 20-member Board advises the Institute
of Museum and Library Services, an independent federal
agency that is a primary source of federal funds for the
nation's museums and libraries. The Board also makes recommendations
for the National Award for Museum and Library Service,
the nation's highest honor for extraordinary public service
provided by these institutions. Board members are selected
for their broad knowledge of, expertise in, or commitment
to museums and libraries.
"These eight distinguished individuals
will make a tremendous addition to our Board," said
Robert S. Martin, Chairman of the Board and Director of
the Institute of Museum and Library Services. "They
have the capacity to encourage synergies as well as enrich
discussions with unique knowledge and expertise about
issues that challenge libraries, museums, and the public
.With their policy advice, they will help IMLS support
libraries and museums in their role as centers of lifelong
learning."
