Institute of Museum and Library Services Sponsors the Pavilion of the States At the 5th Annual National Book Festival
The Institute of Museum and Library Services,
for the fourth consecutive year, hosted the Pavilion of
the States at the National Book Festival on The Mall,
Saturday, September 24th from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The National Book Festival is sponsored by the Library
of Congress and hosted by First Lady Laura Bush. The festival
was free and open to the public.
The Pavilion of the States promotes reading
and literacy projects as well as the literary traditions
of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S.
territories. Representatives from state libraries throughout
the nation provided information and answered questions
about their state’s writers, libraries, book festivals,
book awards and reading promotion activities.
“The Pavilion of the States has grown to be one of the most popular venues at the National Book Festival,” said
Mary Chute, Acting Director of the Institute of Museum and Services. “The throng of children, teens, and adults who line-up at their
home state’s tables each year is vibrant testimony that America is truly a nation of lifelong learners. The Institute of Museum and
Library Services is pleased to have sponsored the Pavilion of the States again this year.”
This year the Pavilion of the States also featured eight American authors who read excerpts from their latest books. From
California to Virginia, children’s authors, mystery writers, and novelists for teens signed books for fans and discussed their work
with visitors at the tables.
The authors who visited the Pavilion of the States included:
California
Marcia Muller, Cape Perdido
West Virginia
Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, Alice and Witch series
Maryland
Laura Lippman, Monaghan mystery series
New Jersey
Walter Dean Myers, Autobiography of My Dead Brother
New Hampshire
Jennifer Ericsson, Home to Me, Home to You
