Museums for America Deadline November 15

IMLS’s largest grant program for museums will award over $16 million to museums nationwide in FY2006

Washington, DC—The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) encourages U.S. museums, from art to zoo, both large and small, to apply for funds from the largest federal grant program for museums, Museums for America.

Museums for America grants help museums sustain cultural heritage, support lifelong learning and act as centers of community engagement,” said IMLS Acting Director Mary Chute. “The grants enable these institutions to advance their strategic plans and create public value.”

In FY 2005, IMLS awarded $16,859,240 to 169 museums of all types and sizes across the country. For examples of the types of projects Museums for America support, please see the descriptions of this year’s grant projects.

The deadline is fast approaching: November 15, 2005. IMLS encourages all eligible museums to apply. Applicants may request up to $150,000. Guidelines, successful proposals, and application forms are available on the IMLS Web site. You may also contact Christine Henry, Senior Program Officer, at 202-653-4674, chenry@imls.gov with questions or for further information.
