Institute of Museum and Library Services Makes All Grant Applications Available on Grants.gov

Applicants for Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program, 21st Century Museum Professionals, and National Leadership Grants required to use Grants.gov online application process

Washington, DC —As part of the President’s E-Government initiative, the federal government developed Grants.gov, a single Web site for organizations to electronically find and apply online for competitive grant opportunities from all 26 of the federal grant-making agencies. Dr. Anne-Imelda M. Radice, Director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services announced today that the agency will make all of its grant applications for the FY2007 grant cycle available on Grants.gov. Instructions for applying for Institute grants through Grants.gov are available on the Institute’s Web site at www.imls.gov/grantsgov.

Beginning with the FY2007 grant cycle, all applicants for the Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program (deadline December 15, 2006), 21st Century Museum Professionals (deadline March 15, 2007), and National Leadership Grants (deadline February 1, 2007) are required to apply online through Grants.gov.

Applicants for other discretionary grant programs have the choice of obtaining the grant applications from the Institute through the mail (or from the Institute’s Web site) and mailing in the completed applications, or filling out and submitting applications online through Grants.gov. Even though many applicants will have the choice of paper or online applications, the Institute strongly encourages applicants to apply online if possible.

To begin using Grants.gov, applicants must register with Grants.gov prior to submitting their applications. The multistep registration process generally cannot be completed in a single day. Applicants should allow at least two weeks to complete this one-time registration process. APPLICANTS SHOULD NOT WAIT UNTIL THE DAY OF THE GRANT APPLICATION DEADLINE TO REGISTER WITH GRANTS.GOV. The Institute of Museum and Library Services has prepared a checklist to help guide you through the Grant.gov registration process.

Applicants having problems registering should call the Grants.gov help desk at 1-800-518-4726; email support@grants.gov; or consult the information posted on the Grants.gov Web site at www.grants.gov/CustomerSupport. The Grants.gov Costumer Service hours are 7:00 am to 9:00 pm Eastern Time, Monday to Friday.
