When Artrain USA chugs into town, communities
are changed. Housed in vintage train cars and pulled by
locomotives, the traveling museum brings world-class art
exhibitions to communities across the country that may
have little or no access to art museums.
Congratulating the museum, U.S. Representative
John Dingell (MI_15) remarked, “Artrain USA is an
enormous source of pride for Ann Arbor and the people
of Michigan and I am proud that their efforts will be
nationally recognized. This award will ensure that Artrain
USA's unique concept will continue to bring art to communities
across the country."
“I’m pleased to see Artrain
USA recognized for the worthwhile work they do in bringing
museum exhibits to communities across the country,”
said U.S. Senator Carl Levin (MI). “For many without
easy access to museums, Artrain presents a rare opportunity
to learn about our history and culture, and I hope this
award will allow even more communities in Michigan and
around the country to have that chance.”
U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (MI) said,
“For 35 years, Artrain USA has presented its unique
art exhibits and educational programs to hundreds of small
communities across America. This organization is a model
of community service and a national arts resource. Artrain
USA is a great example of education and innovation in
Michigan, and I am so pleased that their work is being
recognized with this prestigious award.”
U.S. Representative Ralph Regula (OH_16),
whose district hosted a visit from Artrain, added, “It
was a terrific experience for a community in my district
to host Artrain USA. Artrain’s excellent program,
bringing works of art to people and communities which
otherwise would not have had an opportunity to learn and
enjoy outstanding works of art, was a welcome visitor
to our community. I am pleased that the Institute of Museum
and Library Services has recognized Artrain’s contribution
to communities with limited access to art.”
