The Lincoln Children’s Zoo, in the heart of Lincoln, Nebraska, has seen great changes in the city and its demographics during the zoo’s 40-year existence and has responded with a range of programs that make the natural world accessible to even the most underserved groups. Today it sets a high standard for other Lincoln cultural and educational institutions by making the most of the city’s rich diversity.

“I am very, very proud of my hometown zoo,” said U.S. Representative Jeff Fortenberry (NE_01). “The Lincoln Children's Zoo enriches the community by providing families and children with a unique educational experience.”

“This is a well deserved honor. All of Nebraska is very proud of the Lincoln Children’s Zoo,” U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel (NE) said. “It is an important part of Lincoln’s educational and cultural foundation. For over 40 years the zoo has provided Nebraskans of all ages interactive learning opportunities and it continues to make significant contributions to our state.”

U.S. Senator Ben Nelson (NE) said, “Generations of Nebraskans have enjoyed and learned from the exhibits at the Lincoln Children’s Zoo. I’d like to congratulate the zoo on this deserved recognition and thank them for their decades of loyal involvement to our community.”
