| Last month, I participated in a week-long celebration of American culture and history held in Paris by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization). The highlight of the event was the international launch of Picturing America, the National Endowment for the Humanities’ initiative that enhances the teaching, study, and understanding of U.S. history and culture by bringing some of the America’s greatest works of art into its classrooms and libraries. The Institute is proud to sponsor this initiative. At the symposium, I offered the following remarks on the importance of cultural diplomacy and what makes it work. Read more
