Like many state-level agencies, State Library Administrative Agencies are experiencing serious cuts to their budgets. These cuts come at a time when record numbers of people, across a wide range of social and economic circumstances, are turning to libraries to meet some very basic information needs.

The 2011 WebWise Conference on Libraries and Museums in the Digital World was held in Baltimore, March 9-11, with preconferences on the 9th and the main conference on the 10th and 11th. The theme for the 2011 conference was “Libraries, Museums, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) in Research, Education, and Practice.”

This report marks the fourth release of library statistics data from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). It contains data on state library agencies in the 50 states and the District of Columbia for Fiscal Year (FY) 2009. The data were collected through the State Library Agencies (StLA) Survey, the product of a cooperative effort between the Chief Officers of State Library Agencies (COSLA), IMLS, and the U.S. Census Bureau.
