Elizabeth Holtan was appointed to lead the IMLS Office of Communications in August 2017. Ms. Holtan comes to IMLS from the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition, where she served as Digital Communications Manager, engaging a diverse network including Members of Congress, Fortune 500 businesses, NGOs, and national security and foreign policy experts through social media and emerging digital platforms. A practiced communications strategist, her specialties also include branding and messaging, print and graphic design, writing, editing, and website design and administration. Previously, Ms. Holtan was Communications Manager at the Council of Better Business Bureaus, overseeing BBB’s national digital media platforms, and prior to that, its relations with corporate and NGO members. An award-winning writer, she brings a diverse range of communications experience to IMLS, also having served at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point Public Affairs Office; the Museum of Science and Technology in Syracuse, N.Y.; and ProLiteracy Worldwide, as well as at other government agencies, multinational corporations, and NGOs.
Ms. Holtan holds a Master of Science in Public Relations from Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and a Bachelor of Arts in English from the State University of New York at Fredonia. She is active in the Washington, D.C., community with the Choral Arts Society of Washington and teaches with the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society.
