By Dubis Correal Office of Financial Education, Division of Consumer Education and Engagement Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Please join us from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, December 4, to discuss how the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) is working to raise the profile of libraries in every community. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) are partnering to develop financial education tools and share best practices with the public library field.  The goal of our partnership is to provide tools and materials to help libraries provide free, unbiased financial information and referrals in their communities, build local partnerships and promote libraries as community resources The webinar will feature representatives from the CFPB, the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), American Library Association and two of our local public library partners. The Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010 (Dodd-Frank Act) created the CFPB’s Office of Financial Education to develop and implement initiatives to educate and empower consumers to make better-informed financial decisions. To help do that, we’re teaming up with local public libraries, library associations, state and federal agencies, and national financial education leaders to generate ongoing interest in financial education and develop bottom-up approaches to provide programs and build collections for libraries of all sizes and in all communities. We just completed our information gathering stage, interviewing librarians, library associations, national partners and patrons. Our surveys focused on attitudes about financial education, and what librarians would need to do more financial education programs. We want to share our results with you, discuss our strategies and start a nationwide conversation about how we can all better inform and serve American consumers.
