The Visual Arts Center of New Jersey in Summit will partner with Elizabeth Public School District to address students’ needs, including those created and exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, and help with its pandemic recovery. Although the school district is planning to hold in-person classes this school year, the students are still recovering from the emotional impacts of the pandemic and loss of in-person learning since March 2020. Since 2009, the center has hosted the Arts Alive Initiative, bringing high school students from Thomas Jefferson Arts Academy to the center for an in-depth, sequential learning arts education program that expands students’ knowledge and understanding of contemporary art. Because of a possible restriction to field trips this school year due to the pandemic, the center will continue adapting its educational programming to the students’ needs.
