National Museum of Mexican Art

Log Number: ARPML-250839-OMLS-22

The National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago will advance digital inclusion for people with autism spectrum disorder and other intellectual and developmental disabilities by designing a bilingual mobile app and content management system that other organizations can affordably scale and replicate. The museum will form a cross-departmental accessibility team to facilitate this work to serve children with autism and developmental disabilities who have been disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. This project will train museum staff to support the developmental disability community, understand the barriers to engagement that families of people with autism spectrum disorder and other intellectual and developmental disorders face, and develop new, inclusive processes. The museum will solicit, review, and incorporate feedback from pilot users; promote the app; track downloads and usage analytics; and publish a handbook of best practices for other art organizations to use.
