The Portland Art Museum in Oregon will increase its workforce and provide staff with training to better support patrons as the museum reopens and reengages with the community after the pandemic forced its closure. A newly created role of recruiter will support the recruitment process for the rehiring of approximately 30 staff positions. The museum will conduct interview skills training for hiring teams, equity training for new hires, and de-escalation training for all staff. Recruitment efforts and trainings will support a more inclusive work culture that is welcoming to all. The project is designed to support community healing after a year or isolation and social distancing caused by the COVID-19 pandemic by training staff to spark productive discourse on a range of issues relevant to visitors.
