Log Number: IC-21-11-0009-11

The Asheville Art Museum will use funds to support the conservation of two works of art in its permanent collection from artists of both regional and national significance. The two works are Portrait of Aristodimos Kaldis, 1976 by Elaine de Kooning, and Brass Clocks, 1956 by Fannie Hillsmith. These artists are associated with Black Mountain College, which is located 15 miles east of Asheville and during its brief existence from 1933 to 1957was a unique experiment in American education and a center for experimentation in all areas of the arts. To celebrate these works and their conservation, the museum will exhibit them in an upcoming permanent collection exhibition scheduled for 2012.
