Northeast Document Conservation Center

The Northeast Document Conservation Center proposes to partner with Heritage Preservation, American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works, Museum Computer Network, and the Center for Research Libraries to develop a methodology to assess the preservation needs of digital collections in museums. This project includes a preliminary survey of the status of museums' digital collections (building upon findings from the Heritage Health Index), and a colloquium of 12-15 nationally recognized experts who will consider how museums can establish the value of digital collections and set preservation priorities. The expected project outcome is the dissemination of practical assessment tools and guidelines to assist museum staff in planning for the management and preservation of existing digital resources.
