The San Antonio Children’s Museum is partnering with the San Antonio Public Library and Carnegie Mellon University’s Entertainment Technology Center to create early literacy interactive learning activities for children ages 5-10 years. The Imagination Studio will include interactive components and digital learning tools for reading books and stories, recording and archiving personal book reviews, and spontaneously creating and telling stories. The project is designed to promote core skills in young readers and writers, and to help bridge the literacy loss young readers experience during summer break. Imagination Studio components will be housed at the museum and two branch libraries, and prototypes will be tested extensively through visitor interactions in these settings. The museum and its partners will share project results with peers through local, regional, and national conferences to spur innovative, literacy-focused settings in children’s museums and more playful experiences in library settings.
