University of Puerto Rico - Rio Piedras Campus (Museum of History, Anthropology and Art)

Log Number: MA-249398-OMS-21

The Museum of Anthropology, History and Art of the University of Puerto Rico plans to relocate and rehouse artifacts recovered from archaeological excavations by the Center of Archaeological Research. The collection is the largest and most complete collection of archeological objects in Puerto Rico and the entire Caribbean region. The museum will purchase and install a high-density mobile storage system that will house the collection. This rehousing will increase capacity of the center’s storage area, significantly improve storage conditions, protect and conserve the integrity and accessibility of collections, and increase accessibility for teaching and research. The project will promote the long-term preservation of the collection and will enable the museum to respond to a growing demand for access to the objects for teaching and research purposes.
