Indiana Historical Society

Log Number: MA-251819-OMS-22

The Indiana Historical Society will implement an outreach program to support history organizations and individuals across Indiana in preserving their local stories. In response to a statewide needs assessment, the project will provide local organizations with training on best practices for collecting and retaining digital content. The museum will purchase and design a 36-foot trailer towed by a one-ton truck that will contain equipment to record oral histories and digitize individual’s photographs, papers, and other ephemera. The trailer will also feature educational videos introducing visitors to the discipline of history and its importance in understanding the present and making decisions about the future. The project team will hire and train a coordinator to facilitate travel throughout the state. These mobile services will build the capacity of local history organizations to create digital content that records the diverse heritage of Indiana.
