9th and 10th Horse Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers Museum

The 9th and 10th Horse Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers Museum will design and install five learning stations to enhance visitor experience and increase understanding of the history and contributions of America’s Buffalo Soldiers from 1866 to 1944. A newly hired preservation and museum specialist will work with the U.S. Army Center for Military History and historians at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington State to compile research, consult with Tacoma Public Schools to ensure compliance with learning standards, and coordinate the design, build, and testing of the stations. The learning stations will provide visitors of all ages and backgrounds with the opportunity to utilize modern educational tools and promote community conversations around the concepts of American history, service to country, citizenship, and other relevant topics.
