Alaska Raptor Center

Log Number: ML-02-03-0696-03

Purpose: Expanding Educational Services The Alaska Raptor Center will implement Phase II of its Adopt-a-Raptor program, an initiative that enables classroom teachers to "adopt" one of the center's resident education birds and receive curriculum and activities to teach students about raptors. This second phase of the program will expand promotion of the Adopt-a-Raptor opportunity to more classrooms, and add a technology component to the curriculum, offering teachers the opportunity to stream video on a range of topics from the center's Web site, including presentations on medical treatment, rehabilitation techniques, careers in veterinary/animal husbandry, and native traditions about raptors. In addition, several "live chats" will be held throughout the school year, enabling students to interact directly with Center staff. The goal of the project is to engage students in learning about raptors, and essentially enable classrooms to take a virtual field trip to the Raptor Center that they may not be able to visit physically.
