McGrath Native Village

Log Number: MN-00-05-0003-05

The McGrath Native Village will improve museum service by organizing an exhibition, titled the Athabaskan People of the Upper Kuskokwim Valley, for the newly constructed Tochak Historical Society. This project will purchase traditionally tanned furs and employ local skin sewers, beaders, and other craftspeople to fabricate traditional Athabaskan clothing for display. Another goal of this project is to capture oral histories of local Athabaskan elders, transcribe them, and make these records available to visitors through a computer within the museum. A contract researcher and exhibition designer will oversee the content and construction of the exhibition, which will open early in October 2006.
