The University of Memphis’ School Librarian SOS (Support for Online Study) project will increase by 30 the number of fully qualified school librarians working in high-need school districts, including one urban district, Memphis City Schools, and two rural school districts, Haywood County and Tipton County Schools. Tennessee requires all new librarians to have Master of Library Science degrees. This project will recruit teachers and non-degreed librarians into an online MLS program and provide them with scholarships and computers, in exchange for a minimum three-year commitment to work in a sponsoring library.
