This research project will investigate the effect of school librarians on student academic achievement in public schools throughout New York State. This project builds upon prior research in academic achievement and school librarianship, including over 25 correlational and descriptive studies exploring the activities of school librarians and school library programs. The research team will develop robust causal models to provide evidence of the “School Librarian Effect.” This is one of the fist studies to be framed in a causal modeling context with this sample size and range of variables.
