The Mississippi Library Commission will create the Mississippi Library Leadership Institute to develop the next generation of library leaders in the state. Designed for MLS-degreed librarians with less than fifteen years of professional library experience, the institute will focus on developing participants’ 21st century skills in the areas of critical thinking and problem solving, communication, and leadership and responsibility. The Institute will accommodate sixty individuals in two cohorts. These individuals will participate in four training sessions, each lasting two and a half days, held over a period of 13 months. As part of the training, participants will be required to develop and implement a project in partnership with a local non-profit, educational, or other governmental entity. The institute will result in a pool of dedicated, skilled, confident, enthusiastic librarians prepared to take on the challenges of leadership and management.
