Old Dominion University

Log Number: RE-250045-OLS-21

Old Dominion University will identify resources and training to support information literacy instruction for learners as they progress from pre-K-12 to college and university settings. Using a needs assessment perspective, the planning project seeks to (1) understand the current information literacy perspective of pre-K-12 and academic librarians at a national level, (2) assess information literacy instruction collaboration needs across the pre-K-20 continuum, (3) identify potential resources and training required to facilitate collaboration, and (4) suggest information literacy instruction curricula development for librarians that bridges pre-K-20 education. The researcher will conduct targeted focus groups with instructors of information literacy in both the pre-K-12 and college or university academic setting to identify strengths in practice and noted challenges in using the American Library Association-developed American Association of School Librarians Standards Framework for Learners and Association of College & Research Libraries Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education and begin to identify required resources for collaboration among pre-K-20 practitioners. Project outcomes include a whitepaper with direction for resource development and training for information literacy instruction. Additionally, the outcomes will form a conceptual framework for future research and theory informing effective training.
