Art Center College of Design (James Lemont Fogg Memorial Library)

The James Lemont Fogg Library at Art Center College of Design will explore models for blending makerspaces with participatory learning in higher education, primarily through the use of programming and outreach relating to zines. Building on a recent effort to add zines produced by students to the library’s circulating collection, the project will develop workshops allowing participants to learn more about zine-making. These workshops will result in the creation of zines that can be added to the library’s collection, and transform the library from a site of passive consumption to one of active creation. Lessons learned from the project will be shared through publication, and the resulting workshop model will be scalable and adaptable in a wide range of other libraries.
