Michigan State University will create a web-based, user-friendly interface prototype that will provide a model for enhancing user understanding of Ojibwe and Cherokee language manuscripts, as well as the key linguistic features of those languages. Through the development of a prototype computational infrastructure for analyzing verb phrases, the interface will also create a more efficient model of learning from and interacting with the manuscripts. This proof of concept would contribute to the potential future development of a system that would allow museums and libraries with significant Cherokee and Ojibwe holdings to use a common interface in the analysis of linguistic characteristics and help preserve the future vitality of these languages.
