Mississippi Department of Archives and History

Log Number: ST-251074-OMS-21

The Mississippi Department of Archives and History will preserve its archaeological collections, which represent over 14,000 years of the state’s past. The department will relocate all offsite artifacts to a new storage facility and catalog the collections from the Mississippi River Delta region—which is estimated to include objects from over 500 sites. The project design will enhance collections documentation by incorporating Native American perspectives on the objects’ cultural uses. The project team will prepare the collections for curation by rehousing all artifacts and records, and expand tribal, public, and institutional access to the collections to share stories focused on Mississippi’s history and culture.
