City of New York, Department of Records and Information Services

Log Number: ST-251080-OMS-21

The Municipal Archives division of the City of New York’s Department of Records and Information Services will conserve approximately 2,240 drawings detailing the design, construction, and subsequent alterations of the Brooklyn Bridge. The collection of drawings dates from 1867 -1950, with nearly 10,000 items that include watercolor, graphite, pen and ink, as well as photo-reproductions. The project will implement much-needed repairs and stabilization treatments for these materials, improving their accessibility to researchers, and also supporting future efforts to fully digitize the collection. The project also includes the purchase and installation of custom shelving and flat files for storage of oversized drawings in the collection.
