Sokaogon Chippewa Community

Log Number: ST-251095-OMS-21

The Sokaogon Chippewa Community will hire an archivist and a cultural preservation assistant to rehouse and organize the community’s archives in a designated collections storage space. The project will include the purchase of preservation, storage, and display supplies. The collection of objects, documents, photographs, and recordings in the Ojibwa language, holds both ancient and contemporary significance relating to the culture of this people and reflects the history of tribal Federal recognition, aspects of tribal culture, and linguistic knowledge that is in danger of being lost due to an aging elder population.

At the awardee’s request, IMLS terminated this grant in 2022.
