Streator Public Library

Log Number: ST-252539-OMS-22

The Streator Public Library will implement a three-part plan to restore the dome area of the historic Carnegie Library in Streator, Illinois. Project activities will include upgrading the dome’s electrical system, restoring deteriorated elements of the coffered dome by addressing cracks, and repairing the original finishes. The project will also protect and restore three expansive murals painted by artist Gustav Fuchs in 1905. The murals are at risk from encroaching cracks and soot damage from a fire in 1945. The project builds on an ongoing effort to restore the exterior dome surface and structure, which is architecturally distinguishable from other Carnegie libraries nationwide.
