Anthony Marucci was appointed IMLS Director of Communications in August 2022. He is responsible for defining the IMLS brand and cultivating external relationships and oversees the strategic engagement of external and internal stakeholders, Congress, the Administration, government officials, the media and news outlets, the public, professional groups, and current and prospective collaborators.

Marucci previously served as lead of outreach and engagement with the Office of Radiological Security (U.S. Department of Energy) and director of communications and public liaison with the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM). At OPM he led communications with over 12 million federal employees, retirees, and annuitants, managing relations with media, the press, and Capitol Hill. Additionally, during his tenure, he built a daily COVID-19 communications stream (digital/video/print) with U.S. federal departments and agencies, providing needed information on managing communications updates with federal employees. His communications experience began while he was working in the private sector leading government affairs and community relations efforts, representing trade groups both in the U.S. and globally, and building outreach channels to diverse audiences.

Marucci holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and advanced degree work in communications. His professional certifications include Crisis Communications and Project Management from Georgetown University.
