National Medal Deadline Extended for Institutions in Disaster Areas

Washington, D.C.—The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) is extending the deadline for the National Medal nominations from October 2 to October 23. Institutions eligible to request the extension are those in federally declared hurricane disaster areas (August 23 to October 2). To request an extension, email nationalmedals@imls.gov by 11:59 pm EST Oct. 2.

The National Medal for Museum and Library Service is designed to recognize outstanding libraries and museums that contribute significantly to the wellbeing of their communities. This year, IMLS is particularly interested in museum and library programs that build community cohesion and serve as a catalyst for positive community change, including programs that provide services for veterans and military families, at-risk children and families, the un- and under-employed, and youth confronting barriers to STEM-related employment.

See the IMLS website for more information about applying to the program, past winners, or the award celebration.
