The Institute of Museum and Library Services is a proud member of the Arts, History, Humanities & Culture Cluster of the White House Initiative on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity through Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Monday 9/25 10am–11:15am ET Why the "A" in STEAM is Essential for All Students

Location: Washington Room B
Did you know that George Washington Carver was a prolific visual and fiber artist as well as a world renowned scientist? STEAM learning—which builds creative and analytical thinking—benefits students in every field, from the language lab to the chem lab. Join us for an interactive discussion on why the "A" in STEAM is so important for students, whether they’re interested in pursuing a career path in the arts, history, culture, humanities or STEM fields.

Monday 9/25 11:30am–12:30pm ET Preserve and Protect the Historic Buildings, Collections & Archives of HBCUs

Location: Potomac Rooms V-VI
The arts and humanities are central to the infrastructure of HBCUs, providing a foundation for lifelong learning and honoring the pathways of generations of leaders. In this workshop, HBCU administrators, faculty, and students will learn about federal grant opportunities to support preservation of vital historic and cultural resources on HBCU campuses. Federal agency staff also will share information and guidance on successful strategies for the preservation of historic resources and training the next generation.

Tuesday 9/26 4pm–6pm ET Federal Agency Meet & Greet

Location: Regency Ballroom Foyer
On September 26th, IMLS will have a table at the Federal Agency Meet & Greet. The Meet & Greet will serve as an opportunity to meet representatives from the Initiative’s federal partner agencies in this casual networking setting. Learn about the current program offerings and initiatives underway to advance educational equity, excellence, and economic opportunity in partnership with HBCUs at over 30+ federal agencies.
