Museum of the Big Bend

The Museum of the Big Bend at Sul Ross State University will hire a curator of education to design, implement, and evaluate public programs and K-12 learning experiences grounded in the museum’s collections and interpretation of regional history and culture. Project activities include establishing formal school partnerships and developing curriculum aligned tours, workshops, and instructional resources while expanding access for students, families, educators, and lifelong learners across the Big Bend region. The project outcomes include updated lesson plans and educator guides, reusable facilitation scripts and activity materials for museum led instruction, and a set of outreach modules. These resources will be packaged as a digital educator toolkit and made available on the museum website education portal, enabling schools in remote locations to participate in museum-based learning without requiring transportation to the museum. The results will be a defined set of education products that translate the museum’s collections and interpretation into curriculum aligned learning resources and repeatable program models for schools and community audiences.
