Drayton Hall

Log Number: ARPML-250912-OMLS-22

Drayton Hall in Charleston, South Carolina, will enhance its ability to bring more complete, inclusive, and consistent stories to the visiting public. As the community recovers from the pandemic, the trust will hire two new full-time positions—an interpreter and archaeologist—to support the museum’s return to full operations. The museum is dedicated to fostering a deeper understanding of colonial America and the evolution of life in the American South. The new staff members will identify and tell the stories of the 18th and early 19th century enslaved community at Drayton Hall. Museum staff also will create inclusive, engaging tours that speak to difficult histories and enhance understanding of the present cries for racial justice. This initiative will strengthen the museum’s capacity in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
