The Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum in St. Leonard, Maryland, will implement a project to preserve and interpret the region’s cultural heritage—specifically, its agricultural history. The museum, which is located in a 560-acre park on the Patuxent River in rural Calvert County, had to interrupt its preservation efforts due to the pandemic. Now they plan to move forward with hiring a collections technician to organize the collection’s digital data and physical artifacts and enter correlating information in a new searchable, remotely accessible database. At the same time, they will reinterpret existing exhibits and create new onsite and digital exhibits focusing on the agricultural heritage of southern Maryland. Project activities will increase access to collections while also responding to visitor data collected during the COVID-19 pandemic.
