The State Historical Society of Missouri will provide more comprehensive learning opportunities for its audiences by digitizing a greater percentage of its art collections. Due to the COVID-19 closure of its facilities, the museum will dedicate increased staff time to create an expanded online library of digitized artworks and catalog of artworks with associated metadata. The museum will purchase equipment that will support the work of four staff members who will facilitate the digitization process for over 3,000 works, including nineteenth and early twentieth-century imagery representing the indigenous people and native flora and fauna of the Missouri Territory before statehood. The project team will develop in-person and online programs for future exhibitions at five regional research centers in St. Louis, Kansas City, Springfield, Rolla, and Cape Girardeau in addition to those held at the Center for Missouri Studies in Columbia.
