North Country Children's Museum

Log Number: IGSM-249023-OMS-21

The North Country Children’s Museum’s Swartzentruber Amish Home Exhibit will establish a unique and authentic cultural experience for hands-on, minds-on learning for children 12 and under and their families in a rural, low-income community. The Swartzentruber Amish Home Exhibit will be a replica home and “outdoor” wood shop, carriage, clothesline/washing area, and chicken coop. The exhibit will help visitors gain an understanding of the daily life experience of the Swartzentruber Amish, focusing on children’s roles in the family, and will be created with scholar Dr. Karen Johnson-Weiner, local Amish builders and craftsmen, an exhibit design firm, and museum staff. The outcome of this project will be a unique and authentic cultural experience that works to dispel negative stereotypes and misinformation about an important and growing community.
