Icon Museum and Study Center

Log Number: IGSM-257344-OMS-25

The Icon Museum and Study Center will conserve four artistically and historically significant post-Byzantine Greek icons from its permanent collection. Conservation treatment will allow these rare icons to be safely exhibited and viewed by visitors and studied by the scholarly community, which will result in the publication of new research. These artworks will be photographed and installed in the Greek Gallery while their images and object files will be stored permanently online. Throughout the project, there will be public engagement through digital “Progress Reports” and through soliciting community labels for these pieces from local Greek community members. Conservation funding will ensure the icons are ready for a scholarly symposium in spring of 2027. This project will leverage future support and will bring awareness to the “Hidden Renaissance“ of Greek icon painting.
