Iroquois Museum

The Iroquois Indian Museum will build on previous efforts to improve its collections management of its regionally significant ethnographic and archaeological collections representing Haudenosaunee traditions and heritage. A museum studies graduate student will be hired as a part-time curatorial assistant and will migrate the museum’s archaeological database representing over 20,000 items into a collections management system. Additional activities will include confirming and recording objects’ physical locations; identifying missing, un-accessioned, or orphaned items; bolstering and standardizing catalog records; condition reporting; rehousing items in improved storage materials; and implementing improved environmental monitoring and integrated pest management. This project will increase the museum’s intellectual and physical control over these collections, improve physical and digital preservation and access, and position them to be used for future exhibitions and research.
