The Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum will launch a digitization initiative that will enhance the preservation and accessibility of its archival collections documenting Loudoun County, Virginia’s agricultural history. This project will establish a structured digitization process that will result in the digitization of several thousand photographs, manuscripts, and other archival materials. Project activities include acquiring archival-grade scanners, dedicated laptops for collections digitization and management, an external hard drive for secure digital storage, licenses for the museum’s collections management system, and support for a paid digitization intern who will assist museum staff with scanning prioritized archival materials, organizing digital files, and entering descriptive metadata. Project outcomes include improved documentation and more efficient access to the collections for research, exhibitions, and educational programming. Primary beneficiaries include students, educators, researchers, and members of the Loudoun County community.
